CIDCA chairman meets with executive director of UNGC

On Oct 19, 2023, Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Sanda Ojiambo, executive director of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), who was in China to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Luo said that the CIDCA and the UNGC share the same direction and goals in such areas as agriculture and poverty reduction, climate change response and green development, and enjoy great cooperation potential. He lauded the UNGC's inclusion of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) into its China Strategies, and raised hope for strengthening pragmatic cooperation and fully tapping the roles of UNGC corporate members to jointly promote the implementation of the GDI and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Ojiambo said that the GDI and the UN 2030 Agenda are closely linked and share similar goals. The UNGC is willing to strengthen exchanges and deepen cooperation with the CIDCA under the GDI framework, and will encourage more Chinese and foreign enterprises to jointly contribute to global development.

The two sides also exchanged views on specific projects such as marine plastic reduction and innovation-related financing.

Vice-Chairman of the CIDCA Zhao Fengtao, head of the CIDCA's Global Development Promotion Center Tang Ying, Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Meng Ran, and head of the UNGC Asia Pacific networks Liu Meng also attended the meeting.
