CIDCA vice-chairman meets with executive coordinator of UN Volunteers programme

On Nov 23, 2023, Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Toily Kurbanov, executive coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers programme (UNV), with whom he exchanged views on strengthening cooperation.

Zhao welcomed Toily on his visit to China and briefly introduced the CIDCA's responsibilities and the progress made in the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI). He said that the CIDCA is willing to establish a dialogue mechanism with the UNV to actively promote pragmatic cooperation, select Chinese volunteers with professionalism and enthusiasm to serve at UN agencies, and contribute to the fostering of professionals in China's international development cooperation, in order to jointly promote the implementation of the GDI and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Toily spoke highly of China's philosophy and practices in international development cooperation, and affirmed the consistency between the GDI and the UN 2030 Agenda. He said that he was impressed by China's achievements in the implementation of the GDI, which reflect China’s firm support to multilateralism, and expressed the readiness of his agency to deepen communication and expand cooperation with the CIDCA, and to contribute to global sustainable development and common prosperity through high-quality volunteer services.

Deputy director-generals of the CIDCA's departments of international cooperation and human resources Meng Ran and Zhang Guixuan also attended the meeting.
