CIDCA chairman meets with UN expert on GDI promotion

Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Masood Khalid, an expert member of the United Nations working group on promoting the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and former ambassador of Pakistan to China, on Nov 28, 2023.

Luo welcomed Khalid on his visit to China as a UN expert for GDI promotion and thanked the Pakistani government for appointing a high-level representative as an expert for the working group. He introduced the background of the GDI, China's pragmatic measures to implement the initiative, the preliminary outcomes and considerations for work going into the next stage. He raised his hope that Khalid, as an expert of the working group, would promote greater global understanding of the GDI, facilitate the acceleration of its implementation, encourage more countries to apply for its resources, and help implement more "small yet smart" projects that will benefit people's livelihoods and bring tangible benefits to ordinary people in developing countries.

Khalid said that the China-proposed GDI plays an important role in accelerating the realization of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and has been well received and highly recognized by the international community. Pakistan welcomes the establishment of a working group at the UN on the GDI's promotion, and is ready to work closely with China to strive for fruitful results in its implementation, he added.
