BEIJING -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday said that the paths of human rights development chosen by all countries should be encouraged and respected, and all sides should ensure that people of all countries enjoy human rights fairly through modernization with their respective characteristics.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at the international symposium commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

Noting a series of new historical achievements in human rights causes, Wang said in China, the people's right to subsistence and development is more effectively guaranteed, the right of the people to be the masters of the country has been more fully reflected, and the rights of all ethnic people and all groups have been more comprehensively fulfilled.

China is committed to participating in international human rights governance and making positive contributions to global human rights causes, Wang added.

Noting that the path of human rights development chosen by China is in line with its national conditions and people's aspirations, Wang said China will unswervingly move forward along the way. "We are ready to engage in exchanges and dialogue with other countries based on equality and respect, draw on each other's strengths, and work together to achieve the goals set out in the UDHR."

He called on all sides to advocate common security and create a more peaceful international environment for the realization of human rights, address security challenges with a win-win approach, and resolve differences and disputes through dialogue and consultation so that conflicts could end and displaced people could return to their homeland as soon as possible.

Wang also said priority should be given to development, and technological blockades, scientific and technological barriers, and development decoupling should be opposed, adding that all sides should guide economic globalization towards a more open, inclusive, balanced, and win-win direction and earnestly guarantee the equal development rights of people of all countries.

He called on all parties to promote exchanges and mutual learning to provide more options for the realization of human rights, adding that all sides should respect the diversity of world civilizations, and strengthen exchanges and mutual learning.

Wang said all sides should also uphold equity and justice and provide a more effective platform for cooperation in the realization of human rights, adding that China opposes interference in other countries' internal affairs and containment of other countries' development under the guise of human rights.

Multilateral human rights institutions should uphold the principles of fairness, objectivity, non-selectivity, and non-politicization, promptly address the under-representation of developing countries, and inject more positive energy into the development of international human rights causes, he added.
