On Dec 8, 2023, Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure of South Africa Sihle Zikalala, who was in China to attend the second China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation.
Luo said that China and South Africa are both influential major developing countries and emerging economies and they share brotherly friendship. The two heads of state reached important consensus on bilateral ties in August this year. China is ready to work with South Africa to jointly implement the consensus, explore cooperation in areas including port planning and construction, carry out high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and implement the Global Development Initiative to help with the social and economic development of South Africa, he said.
Zikalala congratulated Luo on the success of the forum, and thanked China for its valuable support to the socioeconomic development of South Africa. He pledged to work closely with China, expand cooperation in maritime economy and infrastructure, and promote the continuous development of bilateral ties.
The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation projects. Director-General of the CIDCA’s Second Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin also attended the meeting.
