On Dec 8, 2023, Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Minister of Investment, Entrepreneurship and Industry of Seychelles Devika Vidot, who was in China to attend the Second China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation.
Luo said that China and Seychelles enjoy profound traditional friendship, and China attaches high importance to supporting Seychelles' social and economic development. The country is ready to further strengthen cooperation with Seychelles in such areas as the maritime economy, disaster prevention and reduction, and maritime ecological protection, propel high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, implement the Global Development Initiative, and accelerate the implementation of the projects in the nine programs for China-Africa cooperation in Seychelles, in order to achieve sustainable development, Luo said. He also said that China is willing to provide necessary support to Seychelles in light of its needs in the wake of recent explosions and floods.
Vidot said that this forum has served as a useful platform for deepening cooperation on blue economy development between China and countries in the Indian Ocean region. She thanked China for its support to her country, and pledged that Seychelles will closely coordinate with China to deepen cooperation in various fields including the maritime economy to achieve better development.
The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation projects. Ambassador of Seychelles to China Anne Lafortune and Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin also attended the meeting.
