From Dec 7 to 8, 2023, the Second China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Development Cooperation, co-hosted by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the people's government of Southwest China's Yunnan province, was held in Kunming, capital of the province.
Tang Ying, head of the CIDCA's Global Development Promotion Center, attended and addressed the sub-forum on biodiversity and maritime ecology protection.
Tang said that the protection of the marine environment and resources is one of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and a key area of cooperation in the Global Development Initiative. China has actively carried out maritime development cooperation under the South-South cooperation framework, and promoted the building of a maritime community with a shared future, she said. China is ready to work with countries in the Indian Ocean region and relevant international organizations to deepen the blue partnership, make good use of the project pool and funding pool for global development, push for more demonstration projects on marine ecological governance cooperation, support coastal developing countries in enhancing their capacity for blue development, and strive to create new prospects for international maritime development cooperation, she added.
Hosted by China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the sub-forum drew the attendance of government officials from the Indian Ocean region and officials from international organizations, as well as representatives from scientific research institutes, enterprises and non-governmental organizations, who held in-depth exchanges on such topics as "implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to boost the mainstreaming of biodiversity conservation" and "protecting marine ecology and environment to foster harmony between Humanity and the sea".
