CIDCA| Updated: 2024-01-17

A launch event of China-aided educational infrastructure projects in Honduras was held in Tegucigalpa on Jan 11, 2024. Foreign Minister of Honduras Enrique Reina and Minister of Education Daniel Sponda, as well as Chinese Ambassador to Honduras Yu Bo and survey team members from the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), attended the event.

On behalf of his government, Reina extended his sincere appreciation to China for its help in the education sector in his country. He said that residents in rural areas of Honduras have been looking forward to improving local educational infrastructure for years. Investing in education is investing in the next generation, he said, adding that China's assistance will bring a bright future to Honduras.

Sponda said that improving educational infrastructure is a long-cherished wish of the Honduras people, and China's support fully reflects the deepening friendship between the two countries. He pledged to build the China-aided educational projects into a highlight of the mutually-beneficial cooperation between the two countries and a witness of friendship between the two peoples.

Yu said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Honduras relations have witnessed rapid development, yielding tangible results. The educational infrastructure assistance projects aim to implement the key consensus reached between the two heads of state. China attaches great importance to the projects, and wishes to have thorough alignment between the two sides to achieve tangible results in the survey and set a solid foundation for the implementation of the projects.

It is estimated that the China-aided educational infrastructure projects will benefit 170,000 students in Honduras, and provide 60,000 employment opportunities, benefiting 60 percent of households in Honduras.
