CIDCA vice-chairman meets with party delegation from Kiribati

On Jan 25, 2024, Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), received a delegation from Kiribati headed by Betero Atanibora, chairman of the Tobwaan Kiribati Party.

Noting that Kiribati is an important country in the Pacific region, Zhao said that the China-Kiribati relations have been continuously consolidated and rapidly developed under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries. China and Kiribati are both developing countries and face the important task of achieving national development. China will continue to provide assistance within its capacity to the economic and social development and improvement of people's livelihoods in Kiribati, and is willing to continue strengthening communication and cooperation with Kiribati, carry out high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), in a bid to achieve more cooperation results to benefit the people of both countries, he said.

Betero said that Kiribati highly regards and sincerely appreciates China’s valuable support and assistance to Kiribati's economic and social development and the improvement of its people's livelihoods. Kiribati firmly supports the one-China principle, and is willing to actively participate in Belt and Road cooperation and GDI implementation. It is also ready to jointly implement the consensus reached between the two heads of state, and promote the continuous achievements of development cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two sides also held in-depth exchanges on specific cooperation projects.

Kiribati's Ambassador to China David A Teaabo, Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's Second Department of Regional Affairs Cai Fang, and Deputy Director-General of the Seventh Bureau of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee Zhao Hongtao also attended the meeting.
