Chinese embassy in Suriname holds gathering for Surinamese trainees

More than 200 Surinamese senior officials and representatives who joined training and inspection programs in China last year attended a gathering at the Chinese embassy in Suriname on Jan 24.

In his speech at the gathering, Chinese Ambassador to Suriname Han Jing spoke highly of human resource cooperation between the two countries in 2023, emphasizing that China has embarked on a path of socialism with Chinese characteristics that is in line with China’s conditions after decades of efforts. China delivered one-third of the global growth with an economic growth rate of 5.2 percent last year, and will continue to serve as a major engine for world economic growth and share development opportunities with other countries, Han said.

Human resource development cooperation stands out as a shining example of China's foreign aid efforts and a vivid manifestation of China's endeavor in building a community with a shared future for mankind, he noted.

In 2023, more than 300 Surinamese officials, experts and scholars participated in training and inspection programs in China, which have trained several thousand personnel over the years in key areas of socioeconomic development such as agriculture, natural resources, health care, infrastructure and poverty reduction, according to Han.

The Chinese side stands ready to provide more opportunities for studying in China in line with Suriname's needs, promoting diverse forms of personnel exchanges to lay a more solid foundation for the continuous deepening of practical cooperation between the two nations, he said.

China, with its advanced technology and expertise in agriculture, presents invaluable opportunities to enhance farming practices, improve productivity, and ensure food security for Suriname, said Anand Ramkisoensing, permanent secretary of the Surinamese Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, on behalf his minister, at the event.

He expressed the hope that Surinamese trainees could make good use of the training and exchange opportunities provided by China, and make contribution to the development of Suriname and  Suriname-China friendship.

During the event, representatives of trainees enthusiastically shared stories about their learning experience in China, and lauded China's achievements in such areas as infrastructure construction, building a national unified market, healthcare, livelihood security, social governance, and rural vitalization. 

They all agreed that their experience in China not only expanded their knowledge and horizons, but also changed their stereotyped view of the nation.

They said they were also impressed by the Chinese people’s kindness and sense of unity and devotion, adding that they will make full use of what they have learned from China and contribute to the development of their own country and the China-Suriname cooperation.
