Phase II of China-aided University of Kratie in Cambodia breaks ground

CIDCA| Updated: 2024-02-02

A groundbreaking ceremony for Phase II of the China-aided University of Kratie in Cambodia was held on Jan 31. Touch Visalsok, secretary of state of the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and Zhong Jie, economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, attended and addressed the event.

Visalsok extended his appreciation to China, saying that China has long helped with Cambodia's development and the action to expand the University of Kratie is a strong support to Cambodia's "Pentagonal Strategy" and the "One Province, One University" policy, which will inject new vitality into the educational and economic development of Kratie province and northeastern Cambodia.

Pointing out that the University of Kratie is the first public comprehensive university in northeastern Cambodia, Zhong said that it is a landmark project of China's free assistance to Cambodia, which not only fills the gap in higher education in northeastern Cambodia, but also provides strong support for the improvement of Cambodia's national education system and infrastructure development.

The first phase of the project, including the office building, the teaching building, the laboratory building, the lecture theatre and the library, was put into operation in April 2018. The second-phase project includes the construction of new dormitories for teachers and students, the provision of some experimental equipment, and the building and renovation of the campus drainage system.
