CIDCA chairman meets with Fijian acting PM

On Feb 2, 2024, Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), paid a visit to Fiji, where he met with Fijian Acting Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica in Suva. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral development cooperation and jointly met the press afterwards.

Fiji is an important country in the South Pacific Ocean region, Luo said, noting that China and Fiji have enjoyed a traditional friendship and maintained the steady development of their pragmatic cooperation in various fields, which has yielded fruitful results. China lauds Fiji's firm adherence of the one-China principle, and is ready to work with Fiji to jointly implement the key consensus reached between the two heads of state, deepen communication and dialogue based on mutual respect, mutually beneficial cooperation and common development, carry out high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI), in a bid to yield more bilateral cooperation outcomes that will benefit the people of both countries, he said.

Kamikamica spoke highly of Fiji-China relations and said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 49 years ago, Fiji has firmly adhered to the one-China principle and closely coordinated with China on global and regional issues. Fiji appreciates China's support for the economic and social development of Fiji and pledges active support and participation in the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, the GDI, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and hopes to learn from China's experience in state governance to achieve the common development of both countries, he added.

The two sides also signed related cooperation agreements.

On the same day, Luo also met respectively with Fijian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Biman Prasad, Assistant Minister for the Prime Minister's Office Sakiusa Tubna, and Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Lesikimacuata Korovavala, with whom he held in-depth exchanges on bilateral relations and development assistance cooperation.
