On Feb 19, a joint declaration for tripartite cooperation was signed remotely between the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Ethiopia.

This is the first tripartite cooperation document the CIDCA signed with a UN agency and an African country that focuses on “small yet smart” assistance projects and aims for the joint implementation of the China-proposed Global Development Initiative (GDI).

The CIDCA also signed a joint declaration with the UNIDO on promoting the full implementation of the GDI.

“Both the UNIDO and the Ethiopian government are China’s important partners on international development cooperation,” said Li Ming, spokesperson for the CIDCA. The CIDCA will strengthen coordination with the two partners, innovate financing channels and strive for early harvest in cooperation to benefit developing countries and their people with tangible outcomes, he noted.

The joint declaration between the CIDCA and the UNIDO is China’s first comprehensive official document signed with a UN agency with the objective of implementing the GDI, according to Li. The two sides reached a series of consensus on future cooperation planning and cooperation on specific projects, he added.
