On March 8, the China-aided micro-grid seawater desalination project was launched in the Maldives. Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin and Maldivian Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Abdulla Muththalib attended the launching ceremony held on Kaashidhoo Island.
Wang extended her congratulations on the official launch of the project in five islands in the Maldives, including Kaashidhoo Island, saying that the project will help improve the people's well-being and boost the country's sustainable development. Noting that President Mohamed Muizzu's recent visit to China led to the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, she said that China is ready to join hands with the Maldives to implement the consensus reached between the two heads of state and further strengthen cooperation in such areas as new energy in order to further benefit the Maldivian people.
Muththalib thanked China for its generous assistance, saying that the project will significantly improve the living conditions of the residents on the five islands and is another typical example of the Maldives-China friendly cooperation. He raised his hope for continuous cooperation with China to promote the economic development of the Maldives and the Maldives-China friendship.
