On March 25, 2024, Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Selwin Hart, special adviser to the United Nations secretary-general and assistant secretary-general of the Climate Action Team. Zhao noted that climate change response is one of the eight priority areas of the China-proposed Global Development Initiative (GDI), and an important field of China's foreign assistance and international development cooperation. China actively supports other developing countries in responding to climate change and achieving green development by tapping its own development experience, as well as pooling funding and resources through various channels, he said. China has always upheld and practiced true multilateralism and supported the UN’s leading role, he said, adding that the CIDCA is ready to deepen cooperation with UN agencies in climate change response, and to accelerate the implementation of the GDI and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Hart lauded the contributions of China's foreign assistance to global green sustainable development, and said that China, as a responsible major country, has served as an example and provided all-round support for other developing countries. The UN supports its agencies to fully deepen cooperation with the CIDCA in a bid to jointly safeguard Mother Earth, he added.

Li Ming and Cai Fang, deputy director-generals of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation and Second Department of Regional Affairs, also attended the meeting.
