On April 9, 2024, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Luo Zhaohui paid a visit to Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Mottley in Bridgetown, capital of the country. Chinese Ambassador to Barbados Yan Xiusheng was present at the event.
Luo said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Barbados 47 years ago, the two countries have been committed to mutual trust and mutual benefit, carried out close high-level exchanges, deepened pragmatic cooperation, and increased people-to-people exchanges. China lauds Barbados’ firm adherence to the one-China principle, and is ready to work with Barbados to jointly implement the key consensus reached between the two heads of state, and expand cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, agriculture, climate change response and human resource development, to promote the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and strive for continuous development of bilateral ties, he said.
Mottley said that Barbados has always regarded China as a reliable partner and appreciates China’s support for the country’s economic and social development and the improvement of its people’s livelihoods. She reaffirmed Barbados’ firm adherence to the one-China principle, and pledged active participation in the Belt and Road cooperation and the GDI implementation. Barbados is willing to learn from China’s successful development experiences and looks forward to deepening pragmatic cooperation with China in various fields in order to benefit both countries and their people, she said.
On the same day, Luo met with Foreign Minister of Barbados Kerrie Drurard Symmonds, with whom he held in-depth exchanges on bilateral relations and matters of cooperation. Related cooperation documents were signed at the meeting.
During his visit to the country, Luo also inspected local China-aided projects.
