On April 9, 2024, witnessed by the heads of state of China and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Vice-Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency Zhao Fengtao signed a series of bilateral cooperative documents respectively with Micronesian Secretary of Foreign Affairs Lorin S. Robert, Secretary of Transportation, Communications and Infrastructure Carlson D. Apis, and Secretary of Resource and Development Elina P. Akinaga.
The documents include an agreement on economic and technological cooperation, a memorandum of understanding on infrastructure cooperation and a memorandum of understanding on the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI).
The two sides agreed to actively expand cooperation under the GDI framework, focusing on such areas as poverty reduction, food security, infrastructure, health care and human resources development, as well as to strengthen policy communication and explore cooperation projects.
