CIDCA vice-chairman meets with UN Secretary-General’s envoy on technology

On July 2, 2024, Vice-Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Zhao Fengtao met with Amandeep Singh Gill, the United Nations Secretary-General's envoy on technology, in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on international cooperation in technology and the global governance of artificial intelligence.

Zhao said science and technology is a major area of China's foreign assistance and international development cooperation. The CIDCA attaches great importance to cooperating with UN agencies in this field, supports the UN in playing a central role in the global AI governance, and is ready to work with the UN to jointly implement the Global Development Initiative and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he said.

Gill thanked the CIDCA for its support for international development cooperation in science and technology. He introduced the UN's considerations and work in the AI field, and expressed willingness to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side on digital infrastructure and human resource development, to help reduce the "digital gap" and achieve comprehensive development of digital technology and shared benefits.

Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Meng Ran also attended the meeting.
