CIDCA vice-chairman speaks on energy transition and sustainable development at 2nd high-level conference of Forum on Global Action for Shared Development

The Vice-Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Yang Weiqun addressed the sub-forum on "energy transition and sustainable development" at the second high-level conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development in Beijing on July 12.

Yang pointed out that green development is a major area of the China-proposed Global Development Initiative (GDI). China has vigorously promoted energy transition and green and low-carbon development, actively participated in international energy governance, and has become a major leader and promoter of global energy transition, he said. As the agency responsible for China’s foreign aid programs, international development cooperation and coordinating the implementation of the GDI, the CIDCA has actively pursued green development, implemented a series of new energy projects involving  photovoltaic, wind power and hydropower, built low-carbon demonstration zones and climate change adaptation demonstration zones, and organized research and training programs on new energy development and utilization to help developing countries enhance their green development capacity and resilience, he added.

Yang said the CIDCA will work with various development partners to actively implement the GDI and continue to increase investment in green development resources, enrich the toolbox of green development and refine sustainable development projects, thus making new contributions to achieving sustainable development for human society.

The sub-forum was hosted by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization, with over 400 representatives from more than 20 countries and international organizations, embassies and domestic and foreign enterprises attending. Participants held in-depth discussions on policies, technologies, practices and outstanding cases of international cooperation in global energy transition, aiming to build consensus on and contribute wisdom to promoting energy transition and sustainable development.
