The second high-level conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development closed in Beijing on July 13, 2024. Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Luo Zhaohui attended the closing ceremony and delivered remarks.
Noting that this conference was a grand gathering focusing on development, exploring cooperation and envisioning the future, Luo said that the conference conveyed strong messages of development, action and unity, with attendance of representatives from over 160 countries and international and regional organizations.
The attendees agreed that true multilateralism must be upheld in order to realize the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Global Development Initiative (GDI) is an initiative of shared development between the Global South and Global North, and the modernization of the Global South is a major driving force in realizing global sustainable development. Efforts are called for in driving the North-South dialogue, and exploring new type of partnerships with focuses on energy, the digital economy, climate change response, and youth development.
China will continue to expand investment, host the forum and fully tap the roles of the Global Development Project Pool and the Capital Pool, Luo said.
The forum released the Action plan for a better future, which covers 50 outcomes in four areas. According to the action plan, two billion dollars will be added into the Capital Pool, and more cooperation projects in major areas such as poverty reduction, climate change response, healthcare, the digital economy, and human resource development for developing countries will be implemented. In addition, more cooperation platforms will be unveiled, such as the secretariat for the Global Development Promotion Center Network and the China-Africa-UN cooperation demonstration center, trilateral cooperation with European countries and the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank, as well as cooperation with some international and regional organizations will be enhanced, and more efforts will be made to facilitate dialogue in order to advance the alignment between the GDI and each party's respective development plans.
Lastly, Luo pledged to continue to share development opportunities with all parties, strive to implement the GDI and realize the SDGs, and jointly build a better community with a shared future for mankind.
A series of cooperation documents between the CIDCA and international organizations were signed at the event.
