Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Laureano Ortega Murillo, Nicaraguan presidential advisor and coordinator for cooperation with China, on July 12.
Ortega Murillo was in Beijing to attend the second high-level conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development. The two sides held thorough discussions on strengthening cooperation and promoting the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI).
Luo said that, since the resumption of diplomatic relations in 2021, China and Nicaragua have firmly supported each other on issues concerning their respective core interests. In December last year, the leaders of the two countries announced the establishment of a strategic partnership. China proactively supports the economic and social development of Nicaragua, and is ready to work closely with Nicaragua on coordinating and implementing cooperation projects in line with the GDI and to continuously develop bilateral ties, he said.
Ortega Murillo said the Nicaraguan government cherishes its brotherly relations with China and appreciates the sincere assistance from the Chinese side. Nicaragua will continue to abide by the one-China principle and actively support the GDI. It also hopes to learn from China’s development experience and advanced technology, explore more financing channels and formats and jointly implement the bilateral cooperation plans, he said. He extended a welcome to Chinese enterprises considering investing in Nicaragua.
The two sides signed related cooperation agreements at the end of the meeting. CIDCA Vice-Chairman Liu Junfeng and Director-General of the Second Department of Regional Affairs Bai Bin, as well as Nicaraguan Ambassador to China Michael Campbell, also attended the meeting.
