Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Luo Zhaohui met with Foreign Minister of the Maldives Moosa Zameer in Beijing on July 23.
Acknowledging the longstanding friendship between China and the Maldives, Luo said that, since the establishment of diplomatic ties 52 years ago, the two countries have always respected and supported each other, setting an example for equality and win-win cooperation between countries of major difference in size. In January this year, the heads of state of the two countries agreed to elevate the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, he said, adding that the CIDCA is working with the Maldivian side to implement the major consensus reached between the two leaders, carry out high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and promote the building of a China-Maldives community with a shared future.
Zameer thanked China for its long-term assistance and support to the economic and social development of the Maldives and the improvement of the people’s livelihoods. He pledged to work closely with the CIDCA, continue to deepen Belt and Road cooperation, and cooperate under the GDI framework in a bid to elevate the bilateral cooperation level and contribute to the building of a Maldives-China community with a shared future.
After the meeting, Luo signed an exchange of notes on a feasibility study of a China-aided road reconstruction project in the Maldives with Maldivian Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Abdulla Muththalib, who also attended the meeting.
