Vice-Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Zhao Fengtao met with United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs Felipe Paullier in Beijing on Aug 8. They discussed cooperation on facilitating development programs for young people.
Zhao congratulated Paullier on his appointment as head of the UN Youth Office at the end of last year and welcomed his visit to China for the third World Youth Development Forum. Noting that young people are the future of the world, Zhao said China's leadership attaches high importance to their development. The Chinese government has always encouraged and supported young people in participating in the building of a community with a shared future for mankind with vitality, he added. The CIDCA has carried out fruitful work in youth affairs, and is willing to deepen and expand partnership with the UN Youth Office, strengthen synergy on youth issues, carry out pragmatic cooperation in youth empowerment, human resources development and trilateral cooperation, and jointly promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he noted.
Paullier thanked China, especially the CIDCA, for its strong support in the area of global youth affairs. He gave a detailed rundown of the functions of the UN Youth Office, and said he hoped to enhance communication with the CIDCA and explore potential cooperation, in a bid to promote a greater role for young people around the world in accelerating the realization of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Meng Ran, Deputy Head of the CIDCA's Global Development Promotion Center Lei Pili, and Deputy Secretary-General of the All-China Youth Federation Liu Kai attended the meeting.
