Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Luo Zhaohui met with Cuba's Minister for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Oscar Perez-Oliva in Beijing on Sept 10.
Oliva is in China to attend the fourth China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum.
Luo said China and Cuba enjoy a comrade-plus-brother relationship and that the announcement made by the leaders of the two countries in August 2023 on the building of a China-Cuba community with a shared future has charted the course for the future development of bilateral relations. China firmly supports the stability and economic and social development of Cuba, sympathizes with the temporary difficulties the country faces, and will continue to provide support and assistance within its capacity in light of Cuba’s urgent need, he added.
Oliva affirmed the long-term friendship between Cuba and China, which have always cooperated with each other on international and regional issues. He expressed sincere appreciation to China for its help in alleviating the food and energy crisis in Cuba, and pledged active collaboration with China in implementing the key consensus reached between the two heads of state, and more cooperation in the fields of agriculture and energy, in a bid to promote the continuous development of bilateral ties.
The two sides discussed advancing specific development cooperation projects and signed related documents.
CIDCA Vice-Chairman Liu Junfeng and Cuban Ambassador to China Alberto Blanco Silva also attended the meeting.
