CGTN| Updated: 2024-10-12

The China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the United Nations Development Program will host the 2024 National Evaluation Capacities Conference in Beijing. The six-day event will kick off on Sunday. This is the first time such an event is held in China. Tian Lin, director-general of the Department of Supervision and Evaluation of the CIDCA, said the conference represents a major step for China to participate in global governance, implement the Global Development Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Around 500 participants from more than one hundred countries and regions will discuss evaluation cooperation and inclusivity evaluation systems, and take part in workshops at the conference.

TIAN LIN, Director-General, Dept. of Supervision and Evaluation, CIDCA: "Global evaluation requires leadership and promotion by the United Nations as well as balanced participation by developed countries and developing countries."

ISABELLE MERCIER, Director, UNDP Independent Evaluation Office: "With only six years left to 2030, no single SDG is fully on track. Progress has just been (made) on 16 percent of the targets, which is a sober reality, but this is not the time for despair. In fact, we have powerful tools that are (at our) disposal: technology, artificial intelligence, and the growing commitment from governments to use evidence to address the world's most urgent challenges."
