2024 National Evaluation Capacities Conference concludes in Beijing

The 2024 National Evaluation Capacities Conference concluded in Beijing´s Yanqing district on Oct 16. Vice-Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency Liu Junfeng attended the closing ceremony and delivered remarks.

Liu thanked all attendees for their participation, as well as the United Nations Development Programme and the Yanqing government for their support to the event. Noting that the current international situation remains volatile and global challenges become increasingly prominent, he said this meeting was both timely and productive, featuring meaningful discussions and fruitful outcomes.

All participating parties shared experiences and explored avenues for cooperation centered on the theme of "responsive evaluation" to better support global development. It was unanimously acknowledged that efforts should be continuously directed toward enhancing evaluation capacities and diversifying evaluation methodologies, he said, and that greater emphasis should be placed on inclusiveness and the principle of leaving no one behind. The distinct evaluation frameworks of different countries must be fully respected, and all parties should be supported in developing evaluation systems tailored to their respective national contexts, he said.

Strengthening international collaboration in the field of evaluation is essential, he said, adding that China stands ready to work closely with all stakeholders to implement the outcomes of this meeting, thereby enabling evaluation mechanisms to play a more constructive role in helping countries prioritize development and achieve the objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

At the meeting, the "Responsive Evaluation System: Beijing Action Plan for 2030" was reviewed and approved in principle, and it was agreed that the document would be officially released following further consultation and solicitation of opinions.
