Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Executive Director of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Catherine Russell in Beijing on Oct 18.
Luo gave a rundown on China's efforts in advancing the development of children's affairs under the framework of the Global Development Initiative (GDI). He said that the CIDCA shares the same concepts and goals as UNICEF in children's work and has achieved fruitful results in bilateral exchanges and cooperation. The CIDCA stands ready to upgrade the level of institutionalized cooperation, carry out more practical projects, expand areas and methods of cooperation, enhance personnel exchanges, and share channels, experience and resources, to jointly promote the implementation of the GDI and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, he added.
Russell spoke highly of China's leading role in global development cooperation, especially in South-South cooperation and tripartite cooperation, and its important contributions to the protection of children’s rights and interests. She said that the GDI is fully aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, truly cares for the wellbeing of children, and strives to build a solid support system for children and other vulnerable groups. UNICEF is ready to expand its partnership with the CIDCA to strengthen cooperation in areas such as children's response to climate change, digital education and humanitarian assistance, and work together to promote the continuous progress and development of the global undertakings for women and children, she said.
Vice-Chairman of the CIDCA Zhao Fengtao, Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Li Ming, head of the CIDCA's Global Development Promotion Center Tang Ying, and UNICEF Representative to China Amakobe Sande also attended the meeting.
