CIDCA chairman takes representatives of international agencies in China on survey trip to Pengshui county

Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, took a group of representatives of international agencies in China to Pengshui Miao and Tujia autonomous county in Chongqing municipality from Nov 7 to 8, to survey local progress in poverty alleviation and building a beautiful countryside. The team included United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in China Siddharth Chatterjee and representatives of the United Nations Development Programme, the World Food Programme, the World Health Organization, international development institutions from Japan and Germany, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and International Potato Center.

Pengshui has been receiving pairing assistance from the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Luo said that China's rural vitalization as a national priority and key strategy is highly in sync with the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Guided by the initiative, Pengshui, as an autonomous county of ethnic minorities, has successfully lifted itself out of poverty and embarked on the journey of building a beautiful countryside. The trip aimed to offer an overview to foreign representatives about Pengshui's achievements in poverty alleviation and plans for rural vitalization, so as to fully mobilize various resources to collectively participate in the building of a beautiful countryside, according to Luo.

Attending representatives spoke highly of the development achievements of Pengshui and showed great enthusiasm for participating in building Pengshui into a beautiful countryside. Chatterjee said the infrastructure and industrial development achievements in Pengshui are impressive, serving as a successful epitome of China's efforts in poverty alleviation and rural vitalization. The UN system is willing to actively coordinate the technical, funding, and channel advantages of UN agencies to further support Pengshui's development and disseminate China's development experience through South-South cooperation, he said. Representatives from other international organizations also expressed their willingness to leverage their respective professional strengths and international influences, and actively explore cooperation in areas such as tourism, modern agriculture, education, and healthcare based on Pengshui's characteristics and development needs.
