On Nov 15, Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), held talks with Sima Bahous, executive director of UN Women, in Beijing.
Zhao affirmed China's position as a proactive advocate and staunch actor in the global women's cause, pledging full support to the leading role of the United Nations in the governance of women's affairs. Noting that the CIDCA and UN Women share the same goals and philosophies, Zhao said the agency is willing to strengthen cooperation in projects and talent fostering in such areas as gender equality and women's empowerment by signing cooperation documents and carrying out personnel exchanges, in a bid to jointly advance the implementation of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development.
In response, Bahous spoke highly of China's achievements in the development of women's affairs and its significant contributions to the international women's cause. She thanked the CIDCA for its long-term support, and said that she looked forward to expanding and upgrading the partnership under the GDI framework, with focus on areas such as poverty reduction for women and girls, education, economic empowerment, bridging the digital gap, and capacity building. These joint efforts will help women in developing countries accelerate the realization of the sustainable development goals, she said.
