Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, met with Director of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency Ruy Pereira on Nov 19 during his visit to Brazil as a member of the Chinese president's state visit delegation.
Luo said that advancing China-Brazil cooperation in international development is a key goal of the leaders of the two countries. China and Brazil enjoy broad prospects for international development cooperation, and have the willingness, ability and responsibility to make a greater contribution to the common development of the Global South, according to Luo. The two sides should further strengthen institutional communication, promote cooperation projects in countries and areas of common interest, and constantly explore new models that are in line with the needs and characteristics of South-South cooperation and tripartite cooperation, so as to inject new impetus into the accelerated implementation of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and create new highlights in the joint building of a China-Brazil community with a shared future, he said.
Pereira said he agreed with Luo's suggestions and gave a rundown of Brazil's progress, experience and opinions on international development cooperation. He said Brazil attaches great importance to China's leading role in the Global South, especially in the field of international development cooperation. The two countries share the same goals and similar concepts in international development cooperation and Brazil looks forward to working with China to leverage their respective comparative advantages and explore trilateral cooperation in Africa, Latin America and Asia for the benefit of the Global South, he added.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on strengthening international development cooperation.
