The China-aided La Libertad Port project in El Salvador was put into operation on Nov 20. EI Salvador's Minister of Tourism Morena Valdez and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Adriana Mira, as well as Chinese Ambassador to El Salvador Zhang Yanhui attended the launch ceremony at the new dock on the same day.

In his address, Valdez thanked China for the assistance, saying that the new dock will not only become a new destination for domestic and international tourists, but also bring jobs to local people and help them realize their dreams.

Mira thanked China for assisting the construction of this project and lauded the sustainable development approach in building the new dock. She also pledged further cooperation with China in advancing infrastructure modernization of EI Salvador, in a bid to improve people’s life and bring more development opportunities.

Zhang said the dock fully embodied the friendship of the Chinese people to the Salvadoran people, and is another milestone in the development of China- El Salvador relations. In future, the two countries will strive for more cooperation results and bring more benefits to the people of both countries, he said.

One of key scenic areas in El Salvador, La Libertad lies about 30 kilometers away from San Salvador, the country's capital. The La Libertad Port project, part of the first China-aided set of projects in EI Salvador, started in June 2021. In addition to the new approach bridge and dock, it also includes the construction of comprehensive facilities of commercial, public health, and scenic areas.
