On Dec 15, Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, met with Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources of the Maldives Ahmed Shiyam in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan province. The latter was in Kunming to attend the third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation.
Luo expressed his appreciation to the Maldives for once again sending a high-level delegation to attend the forum and co-hosting the forum this year. He said that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Maldives relations have developed rapidly, yielding fruitful cooperation results. China is ready to work with the Maldives to jointly implement the consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries, and continue to enhance cooperation with a focus on key areas such as climate change response, marine economy, tourism and human resources training, he added.
Shiyam thanked China for its long-term support to the economic and social development and improvement of people's living standards in his country. He said that the Maldives is ready to work closely with China, and actively support and participate in the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Global Development Initiative to drive more bilateral development cooperation.
The two sides also discussed specific cooperation projects.
