CIDCA vice-chairman addresses ocean governance roundtable at China-Indian Ocean region forum

A roundtable on "promoting ocean climate change governance and contributing to the implementation of Paris Agreement", a sideline event of the third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation, was held on Dec 16 in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan province. Vice-Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency Hu Zhangliang spoke at the event.

Hu said that ocean is the cradle of life on earth and advancing ocean climate change governance has become a widely recognized consensus and strategic issue in the international community. China attaches great importance to international ocean governance and cooperation, putting forward a series of initiatives and propositions such as the "marine ecological civilization," the "blue partnerships," and the "maritime community with a shared future", he noted. In recent years, China has cooperated with relevant countries to implement a large number of aid projects in the field of green development, promoting sustainable use of marine resources, cooperation in marine technology, and capacity building on marine disaster prevention and reduction, and benefiting a large number of developing countries, he said. China will continue to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning with its partners, explore and carry out more cooperation projects, and promote the building of a maritime community with a shared future, he concluded.

About 100 participants, including government representatives from countries such as Myanmar and Papua New Guinea, as well as representatives from more than 30 international organizations, domestic and foreign research institutions, universities, enterprises, and think tanks, attended the roundtable.

The roundtable was jointly organized by Ocean University of China, the first and second institutes of oceanography under China's Ministry of Natural Resources, and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology.
