CIDCA vice-chairman meets with deputy head of IAEA

Zhao Fengtao, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Deputy Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Liu Hua in Beijing on Jan 6. They discussed strengthening capacity building for atomic energy applications in developing countries, especially in African countries.

Zhao said the CIDCA attaches great importance to its partnership with the IAEA, and is willing to further deepen and upgrade bilateral cooperation through various means, such as human resources development cooperation and the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, and carry out talent training on civil nuclear technology for developing countries, in a bid to jointly improve people's livelihoods in those countries and contribute to the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Liu thanked the CIDCA for its long-term support for the IAEA's work. The IAEA is ready to fully tap its professional advantages in the application of nuclear technology, continue to strengthen alignment with the CIDCA to help developing countries enhance their capacity in that regard, strengthen the peaceful use of nuclear energy and promote the green and sustainable development of the world, he said.

Deputy Director-General of the CIDCA's Department of International Cooperation Guan Zhiyong and IAEA Secretary-General Huang Ping also attended the meeting.
