Gwadar hospital an example of China-Pakistan friendship

The China-aided GDA Pak-China Friendship Hospital is a major outcome of both the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor framework and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries.

Located in Gwadar district, Balochistan province, the hospital has treated 150,000 patients since it began operations in May of last year.

The comprehensive hospital has a well-defined functional area division and a complete department setup, equipped with advanced facilities such as CT scanners, X-ray machines and medical laboratories. It has also set up a "one-stop service platform" to provide hospitalized patients with free medication and meals.

The hospital has been receiving around 900 patients daily since its inauguration. It has treated over 60,000 patients in family medicine and general outpatient departments and over 30,000 pediatric patients, handled over 18,000 cases in the emergency department, conducted nearly 16,000 diagnoses and treatments in the obstetrics and gynecology and child health departments, and seen at least 1,260 babies born. Its general surgery and orthopedic departments have treated over 5,000 patients, and the hospital has performed nearly 600 surgeries across various departments. The hospital's advanced medical equipment and high-quality services have also attracted many patients from outside the region. At the end of January, the hospital's transfusion department began operations, further enhancing its medical services.

The hospital has addressed the deficit in medical provision in the Gwadar region, with maternal and neonatal mortality rates now declining, and the immunization rate increasing.  

"The completion of this hospital has changed the way medical services are provided in the Gwadar region, which is nothing short of a blessing for the local community," said Affan Faiq Zada, medical superintendent of the hospital, who added "we will do our utmost to safeguard this crystallization of Pakistan-China friendship."

People across Pakistan have had a lot to say about the hospital: “thank you to China for your continuous assistance, you are our iron-clad brothers”, “it is touching that China continues to make tangible contributions to Pakistan’s development”, “the Pak-China Friendship Hospital has set up a benchmark for healthcare services in the region”, and “China has won support through peaceful development and humanistic care”.

One media outlet in Pakistan praised the hospital as “a significant milestone in the local medical and health history”.
