A climate early warning system project supported by China's Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund was officially launched in Islamabad, Pakistan. Representatives from the China International Development Cooperation Agency, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, Pakistan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan government, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)'s office in Pakistan attended the launch ceremony.
Pakistani representatives spoke highly of the Pakistan-China all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership, and expressed appreciation for China's selfless support to Pakistan's economic and social development through bilateral and multilateral channels. They pledged to work closely with China and the UNDP to jointly implement the project well to benefit the Pakistani people.
The UNDP lauded China's continuous and increasing contributions to global development undertakings, and pledged to work with China to advance the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals in an integrated manner.
The project is the UN's first early warning project supported by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, and an outcome of the China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation. The project aims to build an integrated early warning data management system for the Gilgit-Baltistan region to strengthen its disaster warning and response capacity.
