Luo Zhaohui, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi in Beijing on April 10. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation under the Global Development Initiative (GDI) framework.

Acknowledging the IAEA as an important cooperation partner of China, Luo said that the CIDCA has achieved a series of pragmatic outcomes in cooperation with the IAEA in the peaceful utilization of nuclear power, its technological application, and talent development, since the two sides signed the first cooperation document in 2021. China is ready to take this signing as a new starting point for upgrading cooperation, he said. Through means such as human resource development and the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, the two parties can coordinate bilateral and multilateral development resources, strengthen policy exchanges, expand practical project cooperation and inject new momentum into the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the GDI, he added.

Grossi spoke highly of China's contribution to South-South cooperation and expressed a willingness to further enhance the synergy of initiatives with the CIDCA, focus on the areas of consensus in nuclear energy development, fully leverage respective advantages in resources and technology, and promote the common development of developing countries in order to benefit all mankind.

This is the fifth cooperation document signed between the CIDCA and relevant United Nations agencies to promote GDI implementation. CIDCA Vice-Chairman Zhao Fengtao and IAEA Deputy Director General Liu Hua also attended the meeting.
