Chinese health team returns from epidemic prevention mission in Myanmar

CIDCA| Updated: 2025-05-19

A Chinese public health team returned home from its month-long epidemic prevention mission in quake-hit Myanmar on May 18.

Following the magnitude 7.9 earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, China's National Disease Control and Prevention Administration (NDCPA) assembled an epidemic prevention team, which departed for the Mandalay region, one of the severely-hit areas, on April 19.

Despite aftershocks and scorching heat, the team carried out water quality testing, vector monitoring, environmental disinfection, vaccination guidance, health education and psychological consultancy. They conducted five rounds of assessment and investigation at four key resettlement sites, trained 105 local public health professionals, oversaw the administering of 680,000 doses of cholera vaccines, and helped formulate 13 technical documents on post-disaster health and epidemic prevention for Myanmar.

This mission was the first overseas assistance mission carried out by the NDCPA since its establishment in 2021.
