A China-funded food assistance project for school-age children was launched in Kyrgyzstan on May 14. Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Liu Jiangping, Vice-Governor of Osh Region Iliyaz Tashbaev, and Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Kyrgyzstan Kojiro Nakai attended the launch ceremony.
Liu said that the project, which was jointly carried out by the Chinese government and the WFP with financial aid from China's Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, will provide nutrition lunch for over 100,000 children in south Kyrgyzstan, demonstrating the profound friendship between the Chinese and Kyrgyz people. China is willing to deepen cooperation with international organizations including the WFP, promote common development of the world through China's development, and advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind to benefit people all over the world, he added.
Tashbaev expressed his appreciation to China for the assistance, saying that this aid will play a significant role in improving the nutrition and health conditions of school-age children in Kyrgyzstan, helping them grow up healthily and serving as a bridge of friendship between Kyrgyzstan and China.
