2nd China-Zimbabwe agricultural cooperation demonstration village launched in Zimbabwe

A China-Zimbabwe agricultural cooperation demonstration village, the second of its kind set up by a Chinese agricultural expert group in the African nation, was launched on May 14 in Mashonaland Central Province.

Addressing the launch ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding said the village is not only a new milestone in bilateral agricultural cooperation, but also an important achievement in implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The Chinese agricultural experts have provided expertise in advancing agricultural modernization and sustainable agricultural development for Zimbabwe, he said. 

Zimbabwean Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development Vangelis Haritatos said the demonstration village is a strong testament to the bilateral friendship and cooperation which are rooted in mutual respect and the common pursuit of prosperity and sustainable development.

Located in the Shamva District of Mashonaland, the village had long suffered from weak agricultural foundations, low grain output and poverty. Through measures such as building agricultural infrastructure, conducting training and planting quality seed varieties, the Chinese experts have helped local farmers enhance their production capacity and improve their living standards.

Around 300 people, including government officials from both China and Zimbabwe and representatives of local farmers, attended the launch ceremony.
