Chen Xiaodong, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, met respectively with Foreign Minister of the Republic of the Congo Jean-Claude Gakosso and Foreign Minister of Zimbabwe Amon Murwira in Changsha, Central China's Hunan province, on June 10. The ministers are in Changsha to attend the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Noting that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the FOCAC and a crucial year for implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the forum, Chen said that China stands ready to work with Africa to take the coordinators meeting as an opportunity to further facilitate the implementation of the Beijing Summit outcomes and promote high-quality development of China-Africa cooperation.

Chen also lauded the Republic of the Congo's contributions to deepening China-Africa strategic partnership since it took over the African co-chair of the forum. China supports the Republic of the Congo in fulfilling its duties and believes that with the combined efforts of China, the Republic of the Congo, and the continent as a whole, China-Africa cooperation will produce more "early harvest" results, he stated.

Chen added that China and the Republic of the Congo enjoy long-standing friendship with mutual trust and support, and that China and Zimbabwe are close friends characterized by mutual respect, sincerity, and friendship, as well as a shared commitment to loyalty and righteousness. Practical cooperation between China and the Republic of the Congo, as well as between China and Zimbabwe, across various fields has yielded significant and fruitful outcomes, Chen noted. China is committed to upholding its traditional friendship with the Republic of the Congo and Zimbabwe, continuing to firmly support one another on issues concerning their core interests and major concerns, and jointly safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of countries in the Global South, he added.

Gakosso and Murwira expressed their confidence in the success of the coordinators meeting and reaffirmed the FOCAC's leading role in international cooperation with Africa. They both lauded China's long-term support and assistance to African countries including theirs, and pledged to earnestly fulfill their duties in implementing the FOCAC outcomes, and to deepen cooperation with China in various fields under the FOCAC framework, in a bid to elevate ties with China to new heights.
