Global development cooperation: Workshop gathers representatives from 16 countries to learn about China's policies

A workshop for members of the Global Development Promotion Center Network has kicked off in Beijing. Participants from Cuba, Zambia, Mauritania and other nations gathered to learn about China's policies and development goals. CGTN's You Yang has more. 

Around 30 representatives from 16 countries gathered in Beijing to learn about the Global Development Initiative, put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as the country's development pattern.

GABRIEL POLLEN, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Zambia: "Pretty excited about coming to learn a little bit more about China firsthand, particularly in the area of rural development as well as the AI revolution."

AMANDA VERDE ABREU, Economic Specialist of the Finance and Pricing Department, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba: "This event for me and for my country is very important, because China has made a very good improvement in the (economic) growth that you create during these years."

The event, organized by the Global Development Promotion Center under the China International Development Cooperation Agency, is committed to deepening the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, as well as the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

As Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized the development of AI technology at the 17th BRICS Summit held this July, participants will also learn about China's intelligent transformation practices.

GABRIEL POLLEN, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Zambia: "Fundamentally, we see that China has managed to connect obviously, the large scale infrastructure development to technological advancements within the context of AI and we see that AI is taken center stage, in terms of revolutionizing the rapidity of economic growth itself."

MAHFOUDH JIYID, General Director, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mauritania: "You know I come from Mauritania, we have good relation(s) with China around 65 years ago, you know China is first a country to come to our country after our independence. Then China started to help us to make our port, our airport and infrastructure."

YOU YANG, Beijing: "The workshop will conclude with participants traveling to the East Chinese cities of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Huzhou to explore the development of China's AI technology as well as the country's green economy. You Yang, CGTN, Beijing."
