China, Germany host meeting on sustainable development

A meeting on sustainable development for China and Germany, jointly organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), was held in Beijing on Sept 5. Themed on women's role in sustainable economic development and international development cooperation, the meeting drew the attendance of nearly 200 representatives from government departments, academia and corporate sectors in over 40 countries and international organizations both online and offline. CIDCA Vice-Chairman Hu Zhangliang, Vice-President of the All-China Women's Federation Zhang Dongmei, BMZ State Secretary Niels Annen, and Charge d'Affaires of the German Embassy in China Stephan Grabherr attended the meeting and delivered remarks.

Hu said the meeting is a concrete action in implementing the important consensus reached between the leaders of China and Germany and carrying out the three-year joint action plan on international development cooperation. It also represents a dynamic initiative through which China and Germany collaborate with the Global Women's Summit to advance the global cause of women's development, he added. China stands ready to deepen international cooperation in the field of women's development, contributing new momentum to the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, he concluded.

The German side acknowledged the fruitful outcomes of international development cooperation between Germany and China, and pledged continuous efforts on achieving global gender equality and women empowerment.

Attendees held thematic discussions on topics such as the opportunities and challenges for women in economic transformation and gender equality as a driving force for progress and sustainable development.
