Chinese fund provides assistance to Iranian people with disabilities and elderly

An unveiling ceremony was held in Tehran on Oct 1 to officially launch the project funded by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDSSCF) to provide assistance to Iranian people with disabilities and the elderly. It is the first project under the GDSSCF framework that is jointly conducted by China and the United Nations Population Fund to improve Iranian welfare. Nearly 200 people attended the gathering, including Cong Peiwu, China's ambassador to Iran.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cong gave an overview of China's achievement in development, its experience in improving the wellbeing of the elderly and people with disabilities, and the China-proposed Global Development Initiative and Global Governance Initiative. He said that the Chinese embassy will cooperate with Iran and the United Nations to turn this project into an exemplary model of cooperation that will improve the livelihood of more Iranian people.

Iranian participants in the event spoke highly of China's achievement in development and the initiatives, expressed gratitude for China's assistance and expressed willingness to deepen cooperation with China under the framework of the Global Development Initiative.
