CIDCA chairman meets newly-appointed ambassadors of Sudan and Turkiye to China

Chen Xiaodong, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met separately on April 2 with newly appointed Sudanese Ambassador to China Omer Eisa Ahmed and newly appointed Turkish Ambassador to China Selçuk Ünal.

Chen congratulated the envoys on assuming their new positions. While meeting with Omer, Chen noted that China and Sudan are good friends and brothers who have a deep traditional friendship and share weal and woe.

China and Turkiye are both emerging powers and important members of the Global South, Chen said while meeting with Ünal. Chen noted that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-Turkiye diplomatic relations, which is also a new start for the bilateral relations.

Chen said China is willing to deepen cooperation with Sudan and Turkiye. He called for implementing the key consensus reached by the leaders of the countries, strengthening mutual political trust and deepening development cooperation, thereby ushering the bilateral relations into a new stage.

Omer said that the people of Sudan and China have a long-standing friendship and that China is a trustworthy partner of Sudan. He expressed gratitude for China's long-term support for Sudan's national security and stability, economic growth and improvement of people's livelihoods. He said Sudan is committed to staunchly supporting China in safeguarding its core interests and all the important initiatives that China has proposed. He also expressed hope that China could offer assistance for Sudan's post-war reconstruction.

Ünal noted that Turkiye attaches great importance to its relations with China and firmly upholds the one-China principle. He expressed Turkiye's readiness to deepen cooperation with China, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and advance the robust development of the bilateral relations. He also said that Turkiye expects to explore third-party cooperation with China to offer humanitarian assistance to countries in need.

The CIDCA chairman and the two ambassadors also exchanged opinions on specific development cooperation projects and regional hotspot issues.
