Chen Xiaodong, chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), met Celeste Saulo, secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in Beijing on April 22.
Saulo was in China to attend the third High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development.
Chen said the four China-proposed global initiatives contributed Chinese wisdom and solutions to responding to global changes and addressing urgent challenges. Noting that climate change is a global issue, he said that the Chinese government has long supported the WMO's leading role in meteorological disaster prevention and climate change responses.
Chen stressed that China is ready to work with the WMO to carry out more pragmatic cooperation in climate change adaptation and green development — thereby contributing to global sustainable development.
For her part, Saulo conveyed gratitude for China's strong support and expressed a willingness to implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Advancing the Global Development Initiative (GDI), which was recently signed by the WMO, the CIDCA and the China Meteorological Administration.
Saulo emphasized leveraging the WMO's advantages to engage in more communication and cooperation with the CIDCA, in a bid to implement the United Nations' Early Warnings for All initiative and the GDI, as well as to jointly enhance global climate resilience.
