China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Vice-Chairman Zhao Fengtao met senior representatives of international organizations on April 22.
They included Kitty van der Heijden, assistant secretary-general of the United Nations and deputy executive director of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund; Zou Ciyong, deputy director-general of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization; Liu Hua, deputy director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency; Nena Stoiljkovic, under secretary-general of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; Rajiv Ranjan, vice-president of the New Development Bank; and Kim Hun, chief partnerships officer of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Zhao noted that this year marks the fifth anniversary of the China-proposed Global Development Initiative (GDI). According to Zhao, China has mobilized resources, improved mechanisms, launched projects and built cooperation platforms to implement the GDI over the past five years — making the initiative a popular public good around the world.
Zhao stressed that as China starts to implement its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) this year, the country would continue to adhere to an action-oriented principle.
He added that China would pool more resources, innovate cooperation methods and explore emerging sectors to advance the implementation of the GDI and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in a coordinated way.
For their part, the senior representatives noted that the GDI has built development consensus around the world and played a guiding role in international development cooperation.
They said that the third High-Level Conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development was held at the right time. As China gains an increasingly prominent position in global development cooperation, the practical cooperation between various parties and the CIDCA has yielded inspiring results in areas such as infrastructure construction, digital transformation, green development and the well-being of women and children, they noted.
They emphasized that they are ready to continue to work with China and beef up investment in capital, technology and human resources to deepen international development cooperation, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the Global South countries and to the accelerated implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
