The China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) held a seminar on promoting the Global Development Initiative (GDI) on Aug 25. Deng Boqing, vice-chairman of the CIDCA, attended and addressed the seminar.
Representatives from 16 think tanks, colleges and media outlets, including the China Institute of International Studies, the Center for International Security and Strategy of Tsinghua University, and People's Daily attended the seminar and exchanged ideas on China's foreign aid and international development cooperation policies in the new era.
Deng noted that China proposed the GDI in September 2021, focusing on development and promoting cooperation amid profound international changes and the COVID-19 pandemic unseen in a century, which was well responded to by the international community. As an agency specialized in foreign aid, the CIDCA has been proactively implementing the initiative and supporting the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with concrete action, he said, adding that the CIDCA is ready to work jointly with all attending parties to fully implement the GDI.
Deng also addressed questions and concerns from attending representatives on the theories and practices of international development cooperation based on the CIDCA's positioning, function and his own experience. He expressed willingness to build more exchange platforms for regular communications with think tanks, colleges and media, and to strengthen policy interpretation and information sharing in a bid to jointly propel China's foreign aid and international development cooperation.
Zhao Gang, director-general of the CIDCA's Department of Policy and Planning, introduced the agency's basic information, foreign aid history and key accomplishments. Xu Wei, director-general of the Department of International Cooperation of the CIDCA, talked about the agency's publicity work in foreign aid.
Attending parties all spoke highly of the seminar, and pledged to continue following up on China's international development cooperation, and to make their own contributions towards the GDI.
