Tang Ying, director-general of the Foreign Aid Support Center of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), attended and addressed the celebration event for the 77th United Nations Day upon invitation on Oct 24.
Siddharth Chatterjee, the UN resident coordinator in China, Justine Coulson, the resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in China, Fu Zhenbang, vice-chairman of the All China Youth Federation, and Jayathma Wickramanayake, United Nations Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth, attended the event.
Tang, also head of the Global Development Promotion Center (GDPC) of the CIDCA, shared her life experiences with the young audience both online and onsite, and encouraged them to dream big and work hard.
She introduced the GDPC’s role as an action and resource platform for China's implementation of the Global Development Initiative, as well as the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The center has already built a global development project pool, a digital publicity platform for global development, and a network for global development promotion. It also plans to host a Forum on Global Action for Shared Development next year, she said, welcoming participation of UN agencies, domestic and foreign social forces and young friends
Attendees discussed the necessity of achieving sustainable development goals via new technologies, and exchanged ideas on how to utilize digital tools in areas such as climate change, children’s education, women empowerment, resource conservation and assisting disadvantaged groups.
