The China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) held an unveiling ceremony for its Global Development Promotion Center (GDPC) on Nov 12, 2022. State Councilor and Foreigner Minister Wang Yi attended and addressed the ceremony. CIDCA Chairman Luo Zhaohui delivered a speech.
Luo said that in September last year, China proposed the Global Development Initiative (GDI). To implement this initiative, China took the lead in action and announced a host of major measures, achieving fruitful early harvests.
The Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China also pointed out that China is prepared to invest more resources in global development cooperation.
He said that the CIDCA undertakes important missions, including setting up a development cooperation project pool, holding a Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, upgrading the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund to a Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, along with establishing a GDPC Network, a Digital Publicity Platform for Global Development, and an Innovation Training Base of the GDPC.
The establishment of the GDPC at the CIDCA is a major event in the implementation of the GDI, said Luo, adding that the CIDCA will seize the opportunity and work harder on promoting global development through pooling wisdom and efforts, managing resources, coordinating actions, and thereby making the GDPC fully functional.
Luo also said that in line with the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, the GDI has identified eight major cooperation areas that are urgent for developing countries, such as COVID-19 response, poverty reduction, food security, and connectivity. Understanding people's will and the tide of the times, these efforts have been well-received and supported by many countries and international organizations. The GDI is becoming a common action across the world.
Luo said that China will continue to work together with all parties to further deepen and substantiate the GDI, so as to make more contributions to moving global development towards a new stage of balance, coordination and inclusiveness and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Ethiopian Ambassador to China Teshome Toga and UN Resident Coordinator in China Siddharth Chatterjee delivered speeches on behalf of foreign missions to China and the UN system respectively.
